Lazarus

Lazarus
36”x72”
Paper and acrylic on canvas
This piece reminds me of the struggle between “what is” and “what should be.” The figure is bound, yet moving and leaning almost inquisitively. Paper embedded in the paint creates the texture that forms the figure. It is Lazarus and he has stepped out from death to life still bound by his grave clothes. As he emerges, he must struggle to shed the strands of death and decay in order to live the new life he has been given.
